ReplyDeleteYou can try Cognition, Perception or Serendipity. Those are the famous ones
ReplyDeletei got serendipity... wow what a change pretty nice :D
ReplyDeletegood, glad that you like it =)
ReplyDeleteserendipity is the best rom. ive put the all on mine. cognition is good just not as fast as serendipity cognition has issues with screen rotate. serendipity does not
ReplyDeletedarkyys 8.0.3 the best w/ lagfix activate
ReplyDeleteexcellent blog bro, bring on the updates.
ReplyDeleteI've tried 3 different ROMs (serendipity, cognition, and precision ) whenever I try to install the packages in recovery mode, my phone says "failed to verify signiture - aborted " any ideas??
ReplyDeleteI have been using Phoenix rising (v4.5) and it is pretty cool (coming from stock 2.1 from at&t on my captivate). just looking at other options so I have the ability to compare on my own. I might try Serendipity or Paragon next, anybody have any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteMight be a stupid question which one of these Tom's comes with flash 10.1
ReplyDeletedi11i's v7.0.2 is this best ROM on here no doubt.
ReplyDeleteWhats the best Rom for the Samsung Captivate .
ReplyDeleteTry cognition, serendipity, di11i's
ReplyDeleteSupernova 4.2 and Serendipity 6.4 are the two best experiences I have had and believe me, I've tried them all
ReplyDeleteCyanogen mod 7 is very nice... Constantly being updated and almost completely open source. Also Gingerbread.
ReplyDeleteSpeed, no lag, stable, sounds like serendipity gets the nod...
ReplyDeleteHow do you install cyanogen? I've tried everything I feel. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDear Bryan, please refer to this http://goo.gl/MLxg0
ReplyDeletePut continuim up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045160
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, already put it on the list
ReplyDeleteI happen to prefer Phoenix but that is bc I created that beast!
ReplyDeleteIt'd be great if any of these mentioned the corresponding android version.
ReplyDeleteBeen looking for a site with this information. Very nice job alChemistar . A perfect place to review ROM's prior to flashing & reading up on what they have or don't have. Many thanks !!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is not listed here which is Fasty rom .Blazing fast and stable (I LOVE IT).Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125136
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link, will add it later
ReplyDeleteYeah it's amazing
ReplyDeleteI cant believe it ,that rom named fasty is just something extraordinary .Thanks
ReplyDeleteI've got CyanogenMod V7 Nightly 37 (2.3.4) running, but it doesn't allow for video out, is there a 2.3.4 that does?
ReplyDeleteFasty updated to 1.7 .What a masterpiece
ReplyDeleteSo here is a link to a ROM that is for the I9000 but I got it working on the Cappy(I made the post) and the only things that don't work are cellular data, bluetooth, and some button mapping problems, but its an awesome Sense ROM!
ReplyDeletehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155898
Will add it in the next update
ReplyDeleteI never seen a rom like fasty , i tried them all .It's fast and smooth with a very long battery life and has multiple launcher like touchwiz 4 or sony ericsson xperia launcher and also the dev provided a link to download windows 7 launcher which is just too perfect.
ReplyDeleteOK alChemistar, here is yet another ROM that I got working on the Cappy(Captivate), and it is true HONEYCOMB!!!!!! IK we are all excited about it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161395
I am uploading at the moment, will be up soon. And still not seeing that GalaxySense ROM up yet :/, hope you will get both GalaxySense and GalaxyComb up!
sorry about the galaxySense ROM, last time I checked, I didn't scrolled down but just checked the first post and didn't find any ROM being uploaded, so I thought its in progress. so I wait, without knowing that it was uploaded on the post below. Ok enough said, will update the list today and will include your ROMs as well, thank you for suggesting
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThanls, hope everyone will try out sense and honeycomb!
ReplyDeleteFasty Rom kills them all btw 1.8 is out please update
ReplyDeleteam now on Apex, will it be better to go to Fasty? won't it be hard to change back the bootloader from gingerbread to 2.2?
ReplyDeleteis there any simple tutorial on how to do it?
will I love my cappy more on Fasty?
You need to use odin to go back to stock , and i tried apex you cant campare it with fasty bc fasty wins in performance and battery .YOU WILL LOVE YOUR APPY SO MUCH THAT YOU WILL LEAVE YOUR GIRLFRIEND
ReplyDeleteFASTY 2.0 is already out OMGGGGGG
ReplyDeleteis Fasty really better than Apex?
ReplyDeletei dont know about apex but i know fasty rocks no joke its so goooddddd
ReplyDeleteFasty is better then apex , so far i test most 2.2 and 2.3 and 2.3.4 roms and fasty is what i will stay with .It's really a masterpiece ,i get 42 hours on battery , the performance is fast .I wish i could help the dev and donate to him so he can get a new phone and continue his work but i have no paypal .If any1 can donate to him to help him please do so .
ReplyDeleteTIme has passed since many of the suggestions were listed.
ReplyDeleteSo I will pose this in the best way I know how:
Which is the fastest rom?
Which is most up to date?
Which is most stable?
With those answers I think most people can make an informed decision for the next month or two.
In the mean time, I think I wil try phoenix, fasty, cyanogen and serendipity.... not necessarily in that order.
Fasty 2.1 is out
ReplyDeleteFastes rom : Fasty quadrant score was 1900+
Most up date : again fasty
Most stable : Again fasty
Generally best battery life ,best performance , gps instant lock for me .I tried cyan , i didnt like that the battery dies out fast , phoenix is ok for me but not as fast as fasty.
Same here i say FASTY IS THE BEST
ReplyDeleteFasty was the best 2.2 rom i ever had and most stable, but over time for some reason my gps wouldn't lock anymore even after 5 min on lbs test mode.
ReplyDeleteI tried Dlev 4.2 and it's awesome, the gps is incredible and it's pretty fast.
I have an issue with the browser doing some weird and annoying stuff though, but all the good greatly outweighs the bad
Just to give you guys a heads up. All the posts about "Fasty" have been by the same person. Look at the punctuation and the poor grammar. It would be nice to actually hear from someone other than the same person. I hear that MIUI is the way to go. But, I'm still researching. I don't like to constantly wipe my phone and I've been running on Andromeda 3 for a few months now... but I need something that's going to be faster and give me some overclock options.
ReplyDeleteIt is kinda puny to be based upon punctuations and grammar .I myself dont like punctuating ,so are you going to say all good comments about Fasty are from 1 person hahah.
ReplyDeleteMIUI is not as fast as Fasty , go refer to quadrant score .I will stick with Fasty mainly because of the battery life and the smoothness .
I'm not posting an opinion on Fasty because I've never used it, but it is a bit fishy to read a bunch of posts and think they're from the same person and then look at the user name and find that they're different user names.
ReplyDeleteThere's no reason to have to do that. If you like Fasty, cool. But, you don't have to try to prove it to everyone, let them come to their own conclusions. If it's as good as you say I have no doubt that it will become very popular.
EL wiseguy your a lame lonely person who lives with his mother and comes up with conspiracy theories huh? I'm real and i'm not the same person as the others you so boldly claim..oh wise one (rolls eyes). "I think there for I am"
ReplyDeleteFunny post Abu lol .I like FASTY 2.3, and i am staying with it .
ReplyDeleteI'm downloading Fasty 2.3 now... Satisfied with 2.1 & 2.2 versions. I can easily go back to 2.2 if not satisfied...
ReplyDeleteOne word "Miui".
ReplyDeleteHad Cognition 4.5.3 on my Captivate which is an awesome rom, flashed Fasty 2.3 out of curiosity and I get a GPS lock in 10 seconds indoors and not by the window and in the lower level of a two story home. Have not used in the car yet so I'm looking forward to the results ( I hope ) Fasty is great.
ReplyDeleteOK first off anbu, quadrant is a bull$hit app, I can change some things and make it go over 6000, it is so easily manipulated, and MIUI is the way to go, at a stable 1.6 GHz(1.7 GHz max) compared to (i think, cuz i didnt like fasty at all)1.2 GHz max, its slow period and its a froyo ROM! Gingerbread or Honeycomb are the only versions I use!
ReplyDeleteI have Dragon_RC7 on my phone, but I don't see it in the ROM list.
ReplyDeleteChip, can you link me to it, thank you
ReplyDeleteI like Dorian's ROMs. His latest:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.attdroids.com/forum/samsung-captivate-hacking/3109-rom-dorians-jvp-v2-0-stable-gingerbread-2-3-4-a.html
Thank you, @chrisleester for your suggestion, will add it in the next update
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for this blog because I would have never known about dlev's rom. I love it. Seems to be very stable and has no viable problems. I use with with the dark core kernel instead of the talon kernel and it works flawlessly.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe person posting about FASTY is a person that is involved with FASTY on xda. The same punctuation errors exist in the OP. It isn't that he is not using punctuation; he keeps putting a space in between the word and the punctuation. For example: "To install:
ReplyDeleteNothing abnormal ,just make sure you are rooted and running 2.2 (however would be better if b4 you falsh this to flash back to stock )
For new custum rom installers :
After install , this will take some time to boot (only for the first time )." This error is repeated in several of the other posts.
Cool story for the kids going to sleep at night jason.
ReplyDeletefasty 2.5 is out and amazingly fasty II which is based on leaked 2.3.4 captivate version is also out(my fav). Please update the list.thank you
Hi, im kind of a newby in the android thing. Befor i was an ios fan and before it i was palm freak. Since i gat my captivete ive been playing with several roms, an im loving it. First cyanogenmod 7 i had some battery draining issues. Than Fasty nd firefly, both excelent roms, very very stables but not that prettie. Than i tried cognition and i had some inestability issues. My next was miui and also some stability problems, although very nice. Now ive been using the latest DLEVS Rom... Let me tell you, aim extremily happy; it is very stable, excelent modem, very very prety, super fast, the only thing is the battery, not as good as fasty or firefly but not as bad as cyanogenmod. Im willing to left some battery for all the good things. Try it.
ReplyDeleteHi I bought a cap with Cyanogenmod 7, how do I do I change to fasty?
ReplyDeleteDo I have to use odin to back to stock ?
Where can I learn from? Any tutorial?
the problem is that it is not a unchanged original android, it is cyanogem
Thanks anyway
alChemistar. here is the link to Dragon on XDA
ReplyDeletehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974738
Actually I´m using DLevRom 4.2, it´s great but, I agree with Jose, the battery is not that good. I like FASTY too but it still has the increasing ringtone problem. I´d like they fix it some day.
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you. This Rom flashing thing is really addictive. Since my last post I tried Apex 9.2 and fastyII. Apex is very nice but had a lot of trouble with the modem, so as a phone was a real failure for me, maybe was just about flashing g a new modem, bat I'm lazy for that. Than I tried fastyII, really good but again as the first one... not so pretty. And now I'm back to Dlevs... SUPER PRETTY AND SHINE. I really like it. Its very sad that is his last captivate rom.
ReplyDeleteYes.. DlevROM is good but it does not have Asian languages like Chinese, Japanese and Korean.. the developer had removed them to save space.. So some of my contacts which are in chinese words cant be shown...
ReplyDeleteHey. I am new to this stuff and i have a stock rooted htc evo 4g. What is a good Rom for starters that I can overclock with but still have my free WiFi tethering, hdmi mirroring and still use 4g and such? Thanks.
ReplyDelete@shaun, Is your firmware up to date? How about the recovery installer for recovery mode?
ReplyDeleteI am using the latest version of Cyanogen Mod 7 which is now based on 2.3.7
ReplyDeleteThe RC1 is horrible, severely outdated and has many bugs but the latest version based on 2.3.7 hardly has any noticable bugs at all, so if you download version 136 and higher you wont notice any bugs. However Gapps isn't always working correctly and sometimes force closes but its not usually a big deal. Its only because of googles coding and not because of Cyanogen.
THE ONLY BUG IVE FOUND IS THE CAMERA FORCE CLOSES WHEN I MAKE CHANGES TO THE UI AND THEN GET RID OF THE GOOGLE SEARCH BAR. ever since I've left the search bar alone my camera wont force close anymore. I've talked to the developers about it and they say its an isolated device issue and its getting fixed.
If you visit http://ninjasmack.in
you can learn how to safely flash CyanogenMod7 and back up all of your data.
@Jimmy These roms are soley for the samsung captivate. You wouldnt want to use these as it will most likely brick your HTC. IDK if you have a 4G or not but check out this link http://alchemistar.blogspot.com/2011/03/htc-evo-shift-4g-custom-rom-list.html. And please do as much research as possible before attempting to rom your phone. Youll love it once you figure it out.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE... Please!
ReplyDeleteplease help ..my samsung captivate is not working .. i flashed my rom from fasty iii 1.3 to dlev v5 .it installed successfully but after rebooting ..my phone is not starting ..i am a new user of samsung captivate ..and i am very tensed :(
ReplyDelete@chitransh ... send me a mail and lets see how best i can help you find a solution to your problem at blakk.guru@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteTried Fasty. Could'n get bluetooth to work. Other than that it was nice. I've been happiest with serendipity. A little plain but very stable and battery life is better than any other rom i've tried
ReplyDeletePlease update! MIUI already is on version 2.3.7
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great blog
ReplyDeleteSamsung Captivate
Stocky rom is great - I initially wanted to just test it but its turned out to be awesome - Its stable, fast gives amazing battery life.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Fusion XII with corn kernal 6.03: works great!
ReplyDeleteDownload and install Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)
ReplyDeleteJust don't change your ringtones, it's buggy. Other than that most of it works! Check it out!

Weird, my name is Chance too...
ReplyDeleteI've tried 5 different ROMs for Captivate, Serendipity 6.4, 7.0, Apex, Mosaic VIII, and Fasty KK4.
Serendipity 6.4 is great if you don't mind running 2.2.1. No flaws that I can find. Just be sure to go to add-ons kitchen if you want Samsung Apps.
Serendipity 7.0 is okay - nothing wrong with ROM itself, but 2.3.3 isn't a good Android version in my opinion, with "Android OS" consuming CPU cycles and battery after a couple days.
Apex 9.3 was great, except it would lock up every 2 or 3 days. However, this was with Dark Core Kernel. Haven't tried any other kernels.
Fasty KK4 - I was not impressed. The Picture Gallery wouldn't work and would consume 50% of CPU until it was killed. Also does not have Backlight Notifications (BLN). Browser was unusuable as scrolling was very, very slow to respond.
Currently I'm on Mosaic VIII. Happy with it, but had to install Talon Captivate Kernel yesterday, as default Dark Core kernel had "sleep of death" issues. If there are no more SoD issues, I'll stick with this one.
In short, I would recommend Serendipity 6.4 for FroYo or Mosaic VIII for Gingerbread.
I am looking for a stable rom that will kill the lag and make it so I can use infastructure wifi so I can tether it to my kindle. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeletehey guys

Nothing beats MIUI.
ReplyDeleteI've tried a handful of other roms, but MIUI still is the best.

ReplyDeleteUpdate Samsung Captivate with Android 4.0 aka Ice-cream Sandwich

Based on the recommendations above, I decided to give MIUI another shot on my AT&T Captivate. Same problems as the last time I tried it which was probably 6 months ago. Love the operating system, love the performance ... but it's just too unstable. Sometimes I leave it charging at night, and find it off in the morning. Sometimes it's just setting on my desk and I see the darn thing reboot for no good reason. Sometimes it freezes while not in use, and won't wake up without removing the battery. Other times it completely drains the battery while not in use.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great ROM when you're using it, but it's completely unreliable for setting alarms, alerting you to new email, etc.. because you're never really sure if it's running or not.
I'm probably going back to Fasty, which has ridiculously good battery life, and great performance for about 30 days, after which it starts to get sluggish and you get to Nandroid restore again. Ugh.
